Adolescent Sex Offenders
An adolescent sex offender is defined as any male or female between the ages of 12 and 17 who commits any sexual act with a person of any age against the victim’s will, without consent, or in an aggressive, exploitive, or threatening manner. Adolescent sex offenders come from all socio-economic, ethno-cultural and religious backgrounds. They also vary widely in their level of intellectual functioning, their motivation, the victims they choose, and the behaviors they commit. However, most adolescent sex offenders are known by their victims. Treatment programs for adolescent sex offenders should be staffed by those trained to provide interventions that are specific to sex-offenders. All young offenders should be given a thorough assessment to develop an individualized program of care designed to meet their specific needs.
